Your Health & Welfare LPA must say whether your attorneys may give or refuse consent to life-sustaining treatment if you cannot make the particular decision yourself.
Life-sustaining treatment means treatment needed to sustain life. It is not limited to resuscitation; whether a treatment is life-sustaining depends on the circumstances.
Giving this authority allows your attorneys to give or refuse consent within the LPA and applicable law when you lack capacity for that decision. Not giving this authority means your attorneys cannot give or refuse that consent under this LPA; decisions remain subject to the applicable legal and clinical framework.
Neither choice lets attorneys override you while you can make the relevant decision, or require clinically inappropriate or unlawful treatment. Clinicians retain their professional responsibilities.
We do not choose for you or provide medical advice. If you do not understand this choice, select the human-review option and contact us before proceeding. This step records an instruction, not a signed LPA, a capacity assessment or terms acceptance.
